Our Story & Philosophy

Studio 83 Clay Works is owned an operated by Cheryl Whittal. Cheryl is a long time Cochrane resident who was born and raised in Calgary.  After a few sojourns away, she returned to Calgary and settled in Cochrane.

 

Ever since she took her first pottery lesson in the early 1990’s, Cheryl has never lost the need to put hands on clay, and that is still her favourite part of the process.  She is always stretching to make that perfect piece or to figure out a way to make something just a little different.

 

Cheryl’s first love is the ocean, closely followed by the mountains and she tries to incorporate both of those things into her designs and custom-made glazes.
